CEO MESSAGE

Dear Friends of the Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCA of Greater Waterville,

It has been a pleasure for our organization to serve you and your family each and every year for the past ninety years.  Our professional staff, volunteers and Board Members work diligently to provide the best possible programs for our 5,000 plus youth members and the 350,000 people who come through our doors.  We are very thankful for our National partners, the Boys & Girls Club of America and YUSA, for helping us provide fantastic signature programs. We are also thrilled to have the Big Brothers and Big Sisters office right in our building providing terrific mentoring opportunities for our families.

Our facility hosts the largest licensed childcare program in the state!  We take pride in the ability to serve 40,000 hot meals to our children each year in our free Kid’s Kitchen program.  Now we are helping them learn the skills to grow their own food through our “Kid’s Organic Garden Program.” Our organization has an exciting vision ahead of us that will make a difference in the lives of many children and their families. Stay tuned for more.

Thanks to our science based educational and social programs such as Smart Moves, Street Smart, Smart Girls, Career Prep, Power Hour and Project Learn we are reaching many underprivileged children.  We are helping them strive for excellence.  In a short period of time through the efforts of our staff and volunteers children are improving their schoolwork as well as developing their life skills. As one of the Club’s slogans says, “It is better to build boys and girls, than mend Men and Women."

We are proud to have one of the highest female participation (48%) in the country for a Boys and Girls Club and YMCA.  We also pride ourselves with educating our children by teaching them the positive results of accepting diversity and looking at peaceful solutions in solving conflict.

Since we opened our 72,000 sq. ft. facility in 1999 we have continued to be creative and always think outside the box to evolve with the needs of our children today and into the future.  By engaging  with like-minded organizations we have formed vital partnerships with whom we can dream big and most importantly implement the vision to inspire our youth.

Former Secretary of State, Colin Powell helped us dedicate our unique merger when we opened. Impressed with us being the ONLY merged Boys & Girls Club and YMCA in the Country he said in his dedication speech, “We were the Biggest and the Best in the Country.”  Our commitment is to live up to Mr. Powell's words every day by taking every opportunity to dream big and inspiring our staff to dream big for our children!

I truly appreciate the enormous support from so many different avenues that make us who we are today. You all are champions for our kids!
