UPDATE 11/06/20

Regarding the new Executive Orders impacting Gyms & Fitness Centers (https://www.maine.gov/decd/checklists/gyms-fitness-centers), the Maine DECD just released updated guidelines on Community Sports (https://www.maine.gov/decd/checklists/community-sports).

These additional regulations have the potential to affect many of our AYCC programs, which we are reviewing at present.  As a result, all group classes and programs will be paused until our staff determines which programs can safely continue under these guidelines and under what necessary modifications.

We thank you for your continued patience and support as we work through these guidelines. If you have questions in regards to what programs are allowed to run this weekend, please do not hesitate to call us at 873-0684.

March 15, 2020

Dear AYCC Community Members:

These are unprecedented times that unfortunately call for unprecedented cation. COVID-19 (coronavirus) is a global pandemic and a national emergency that calls for each of us to take responsibility for each other.

Our facility is a community gathering place and our programs build community and relationships. We bring people together and create personal connections as part of our commitment to individual and community health.  And now it is this very commitment that requires us to do everything in our power to prevent the spread of this virus in our community.

The recommendations of our partners, including YMCA National, is to close the facility at this time, which we agree is the best path to maintaining the safety of our valued members.

Effective Monday, March 16, 2020 the Alfond Youth & Community Center will be closed

through March 29th, 2020.

We are presently working on a plan to provide weekday evening meals to our families in need via a drive-thru service and will be communicating the details of this plan soon.

These are unprecedented times and truly challenging for everyone.  We appreciate your understanding and support as we work together to meet this challenge and take care of each other.

03/16/20

Dear AYCC Community Members,

First and foremost we sincerely hope that you and your family members are safe, healthy, and managing these uncertain times as well as possible.

Everything we do is guided by our mission of strengthening communities and empowering individuals, which includes our obligation to do all we can to limit the Coronavirus. Our decision to temporarily suspend services is our effort to help “flatten the curve,” so that we can all return stronger and more prepared than ever.

Our team is busy developing ways to continue supporting our community; from delivering afternoon snacks and evening meals, to engaging you in virtual wellness programs and providing online educational resources.

In addition, we will be accepting donations to distribute to our families in need; toiletries such as soap, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, Kleenex, cough drops, etc.

All programs, trips and services are still going to run, they are simply being

rescheduled to upcoming dates.

Thank you so much for being a valued member of the AYCC Community and we hope to be seeing all of you here soon!  As always, please take care of yourself and one another. Community starts here. Those receiving assistance are our neighbors, co-workers, and the kids that attend school with your kids and grandkids. Our community is strong, and together, we will get through this.
