The Alfond Youth & Community Center is proud and grateful to be selected as this year’s beneficiary of the University of Maine at Orono’s Baseball Team’s Gloves for Good initiative. Through this annual drive, UMaine Baseball collects new and gently used baseball and softball gloves to support youth programs across the state – and this year, their generosity is making a direct impact right here at the AYCC.
Last week, UMaine Head Baseball Coach Nick Derba delivered an incredible $8,000 worth of gloves, which will be put to use across several programs. These donations will support our Unified Champions Club and Buddy League programs, in addition to our Play It Forward Sports Equipment Trailer, helping remove barriers to participation and ensuring that all youth – regardless of ability or circumstance – have access to the equipment they need to play, learn, and belong.
The Gloves for Good initiative reflects the values we strive to foster at the AYCC every day: teamwork, inclusion, and opportunity for all. We are deeply thankful to Coach Derba, the UMaine Baseball student-athletes, and everyone who contributed to this drive for their commitment to strengthening our community – both on and off the field.
Together, we’re proving that when a community comes together, everyone wins.
