Volunteers – Interns

Volunteers & Interns Are the Heart of the AYCC

In 2025 alone, 479 dedicated volunteers donated more than 5,600 hours of their time – contributing an estimated $182,776 in cost savings that directly supported our programs, members, and community spaces.

When we include our one-time and group volunteers, who generously step up for signature events like the Community Dinner, Trails of Terror, Maine Pond Hockey Classic, and Festival of Trees, as well as swim meets and seasonal clean-ups, the impact grows even stronger. Together, over 1,100 volunteers contributed a combined 7,694 hours, resulting in more than $250,000 in community value.

Whether volunteering weekly, supporting a special event, or interning to gain hands-on experience, our volunteers play a vital role in strengthening the AYCC and helping youth and families thrive.

Throughout the year, the AYCC hosts multiple events, and while not all require volunteer assistance, some rely heavily on quality volunteers.

All of our official events are listed on the Events page of our website. Look for the helping hand symbol✋, which means that the event needs volunteer assistance. See the list below for the general list of events where volunteers are needed.

Homework Club Help

Our Homework Club volunteers make a meaningful difference by supporting our youth (ages 5-12) with homework and learning activities. Volunteers generally choose one-two days per week; Monday-Friday from 2:30-4:00 pm. We’re looking for patient, kind, and caring volunteers who enjoy encouraging confidence, focus, and a love of learning. Experience in education is extremely valuable, but not required.

Garden & Greenhouse volunteers play an important role in supporting hands-on learning and healthy living at the AYCC. Volunteers help with seasonal garden prep, planting, tending, and harvesting, while supporting the care and maintenance of our greenhouse. This opportunity is perfect for individuals or groups who enjoy working outdoors, getting their hands dirty, and helping provide fresh, nutritious food and learning experiences for our youth.

Greenhouse to Your House Program

The Greenhouse to Your House ↗ program provides a free, healthy, and fresh product to our community to help mitigate food insecurity in the short term, but the meal kit concept helps create cultural change by defining a new narrative around healthy food and cooking at home with the goal of inspiring families to implement healthier practices in the long term.

Weekly boxes are prepared to send home to families and we need your help! Join us on Wednesdays and/or Thursdays to help organize ingredients and pack the boxes for our families.

From time to time, we need volunteers to help with a variety of tasks from general administrative dutie, assisting with cleaning in wellness, special projects/events, and our Annual Appeal Fundraising Awards Dinner.

Interested volunteers should complete an application and mark other for volunteer positions.

Unified Champion Club Partners

The first program of its kind in the nation, the AYCC Unified Champions Club Program ↗ promotes social inclusion using sports and clubs as the foundation to create climates of acceptance. Members with disabilities feel welcome and are routinely included in, and feel a part of, all activities, opportunities and functions. Volunteers called Partners play a big role in creating an inclusive environment and assist with learning new skills.

Volunteers are the backbone of this program. By implementing inclusive sports, youth leadership opportunities, and whole facility engagement, the Unified Champion Program will create meaningful change in creating a socially inclusive community that supports and engages all learners.

The Unified Champions Club ↗ participates in a number of activities throughout the year, including arts & crafts, softball, swimming, softball, volleyball, bocce ball, basketball, volleyball, walking club, and more!
