FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

United Way of Kennebec Valley & Alfond Youth & Community Center Launch Family Futures Scholarship Program

Waterville, ME – October 13, 2025 – The United Way of Kennebec Valley and the Alfond Youth & Community Center (AYCC), have announced the launch of the Family Futures Scholarship Program, a new initiative designed to help parents pursue higher education while ensuring their children receive quality childcare and youth programming.
The program is available to families living in Kennebec County with a parent or guardian currently enrolled in a degree or technical program. Eligible households must be enrolled in one of the AYCC’s After School Programs (ASP)and fall at or below the Federal Poverty Level.
Through this scholarship, families receive access to childcare support, giving children opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive in a safe and engaging environment. By reducing financial barriers to childcare, the program allows parents to focus on achieving their academic and career goals while knowing their children are supported.
When parents succeed, children succeed,” said DJ Adams, the AYCC’s Director of Childcare Services. “This partnership with the United Way of Kennebec Valley allows us to provide the critical resources families need to break cycles of poverty and build stronger futures together.”

The Family Futures Scholarship Program represents a shared commitment between United Way of Kennebec Valley and the AYCC to invest in families and strengthen the community.
